His name was Fred Krohn. Little did I know then that Fred and I would be working together for the next fifty years.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eI could tell from those first shows that Fred sincerely admired and respected the artists he presented. He did everything he could to make sure their gigs were successful. He had a law degree, but being a live-music promoter seemed to be his chosen career.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eOver the years since our first meeting, I have come to know Fred both as a show producer and as a friend. I have followed his quest to save, acquire, and restore the State and Orpheum theatres, and his efforts to operate the Orpheum with my friend, Bob Dylan, and his brother, David Zimmerman. I have seen his reputation grow as he brought hundreds of shows to the people of Minneapolis-St. Paul, and to the rest of the country, culminating in his involvement with the World Premiere of Disney’s \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cem\u003e\u003cspan\u003eTHE LION KING \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cspan\u003eat the Orpheum in 1997.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eFred has been one of my most loyal and supportive promoters for over half a century. I’ve performed nearly 100 concerts for him throughout the United States, and I don’t recall a date when Fred was not there in person, making sure that everything I needed for a successful show was taken care of.
